How did you delegate the tasks during the cook with your partner?
One of the group members focused on keeping our work station clean, and preparing the equipment, and the other group member, focused more on creating the mixture and watching over the food while it was in the oven, or on the stove top.
What aspects of this cook did you find difficult and how did you overcome these?
We found it difficult to chop the dates, but to overcome this difficulty we decided instead of chopping the dates all together, we should just chop a few at a time, so we can put more strength into easier chops. This technique worked effectively, and as soon as we implemented it into the meal, the issue did not reoccur.
What aspects of this cook did you enjoy and why? Elaborate on your 5 star rating
I liked how this week we switched to a more sweet based meal instead of a more savory based one. This allowed for new cooking techniques to be used, and it was a lot more simple and less time consuming than other meals we have previously made. My partner and I did a great job this week, but the reason I rated the meal a 4.3/5 was because usually I am not a big sweets person, and I found the caramel sauce to be a bit to overwhelming on the pudding.
What new skills did you learn this week?
Considering that this week was a sweet food and not a savory food like most of our other meals, many new cooking skills were required. A new skill I learnt was beating, which was quite a hard skill as beating the ingredients together to form the mixture took a lot of time and patience, as it took a while for the mixing to actually begin.
A brief history of this dish, 50 -100 words (where did it originate from etc)
Sticky date pudding is a very simple dessert consisting of a sponge like cake, dates, and usually a caramel/toffee sauce. The exact place and time for the origination of the sticky date pudding are not known. However in the 1970s in North West England, Francis Coulson and Robert Lee altered and served the dish as a dessert at their Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel. The dates are believed to have been used, as since they are high in sugar, they help sweeten the pudding.
